playing cards and minor arcana Empty playing cards and minor arcana

Post  shayn Sun Jun 05, 2011 12:43 pm

have a question: is the meaning of playing cards similar to the meaning of the minor arcana in tarot?
for a long time i used to think so and use it the same way till few days ago i found this book that gives a totally different meaning to the playing cards.
so now i'm very much confused.
    ideas/thoughts?

    Hello

That is the way I understand them to work and the only way I have had them read for me.

    Like all things though and
decks at times cards are added to make it unique. I am sure that is the case someone has re invented something old.

I think they may have been similar at one time Shayn, but I don't read playing cards in the same way as tarot.

When I read tarot the numbers have little significance for me unless it's an ace, I read the pictures and also what the pictures make me feel at that moment. so if I have a deck and the three of wands is just a picture of three wands they are no good to me, I need images for the tarot.

Reading playing cards is entirely different for me as there are no images at all except the queens etc and they are all very similar, so I remove all the low numbered cards (except the aces) to reduce the deck to 40 cards, because there are no images to work with there are certain patterns amongst the cards I recognise immediately, for example this could mean a certain combination of five specific cards for me could mean a new job on the horizon, a certain two other cards could indicate a pregnancy etc, once I have drawn all I can from the combinations I then work on my feelings, and I always put out the whole forty cards to work with.
