Generally the reader has the sitter drink a cup of coffee or tea, these two drinks need to be in a form which will leave something in the cup to actually read, this can't be done if you use a tea bag for example.
The drink should be drunk right down by the sitter until only the tiniest amount of liquid is left in the bottom and then the cup should be handed to the reader.
The liquid and any leaves/grounds should be swirled around the bottom of the almost empty cup (ie less than a teaspoonful of liquid left,)and then quickly turned upside down onto a saucer or a plate to drain the liquid.
Then the reader can look into the cup and see the grounds or leaves around the inside of the cup, they may see very clear images or shapes formed by the grounds/leaves or abstract ones.
I will get some very basic images listed here soon so you can practice this, you may also try reading your own leaves/grounds.
