Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
I been experiencing much wind and dust today and came in to the Wi Fi hot spots. There has been some paranormal activity as well. Birds come right to my feet. Hummingbirds visit my shield (native medicine shield). One evening I heard someone say "Hello" outside my tent when I was in it, getting ready for bed. I said "hello" back, but no one was there. I checked for tracks in the dust and for tire tracks as well. Nothing. This is isolated back country, not a developed camp ground. Just Elk, trees and wind. Maybe a cow or two. A mild power spot.

'Peaceful' is what it sounds like,Thunder Bow.
I envy you that peace. To feel at one with the wind and the softness of the evening breeze must be heaven sent.....

Re: Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
Other times, I have had a hummingbird land on the arm rest of my camp chair, just an inch from my hand. They would also come close to my hat and look me in the eye. One time a few years ago a Mountain Lion came into my camp and actually talked to me. By that, I mean it chirped and squeaked at me. This was a real cat, not in a dream. In this camp I have today, a Bobcat hangs around me. Western Blue Birds are always around, and they too, come close to me.Native spirit wrote:The Animals have much trust in you to come that close

Re: Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
ThunderBow, I've camped out a lot, too, and usually not in campgrounds. I experienced fear of male humans, but I also know what it's like to have unexplainable experiences.
For me, a lot of it has been lights in the sky, moving more quickly than any aircraft from Earth can probably move.
I've done some of my sleeping out near the Pacific ocean. I mean up above it, on a cliff. Sleeping right on the beach might be a real problem when the tide came in. For awhile I was camping a few feet from a river. When I went downtown, I swam into town.
I loved that. In some ways, camping is a beautiful way.

Re: Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
I camp out miles from any Town. I camp out in the Navajo Reservation. Also I will camp in the Kibab National Forest AZ, near the Grand Canyon. Only a dirt road or 4WD track. Usually by my self. Only flies and dust bother me. I do this every summer. In the winter, I stay in a room. With occasional camping trips to Spirit Mountain NV.

Camping Out
Thunder Bow, it sounds like you have very good summers. I haven't done much camping for a long time. Last time I tried was about 3 weeks ago, in a free campground in California, near mysterious Mt. Shasta. It was a half mile hike to a tiny, deep lake, and the sky was thundering while I was there.
The rain came later, and I tried to get my large dog to sleep on the folded down back car seat with me. But she wouldn't, so I knew she was wedged into the front seat all night, complaining.
So, that's where the problem was. Seems I need a tent!

Stars Overhead
Spirit Voices, when you camp out (without a tent) you can see the stars overhead, and feel the wind, and listen to distant coyotes and wolves.
In motels, I tend to watch TV, because I don't have one at home. So, that's the big thrill. That and walking around looking for a Chinese restaurant to get takeout from.

The World Outside the Motel Room
Joanie, you mean you have only rarely camped out in your life? I wonder if maybe you got stuck doing a lot of cooking the times that you HAVE camped out, and maybe that is what put you off. Cooking out can be a lot of work, not fun. I just take things with me that don't need cooking, like granola.
I was on a hitchhiker's web site, and someone who was on there made the comment, "Any body who's out there, you DO see a lot of things." This was in reference to UFOs. I believe this is true. Anyone who spends a lot of time out doors does see things, mysterious things.

Let's see.. I am camping a tent now. Elk walk near by. Many flies. Warm weather and dust, with a promise of thunder this coming week. Various birds come by hunting for bugs. The winds are down now as the weather warms up.

What Life Is For
Joanie, I already had my reply worked out for you when I read what Thunder Bow wrote. My response to you was supposed to be funny. It was "What? No TV?"
But I loved reading Thunder Bow's post. I'm interested in Eastern spirituality, like Buddhism. I have a DVD by Lama Surya Das, and he talks about Sky Staring. He says it is one of the highest forms of meditation.
I have spent many hours just staring at the sky, and I certainly never knew it was an well recognized form of meditation. I lived on a friend's land in a camper, and I had a chair out back, and spent hours just staring up. I know I've also done it when I camped in areas that weren't closed in by tall trees.
I have never been on Dine (Navajo) land, but I know it must be very beautiful. I have met a couple of Navajo/Dine people when I traveled through that area. Sometimes I feel this is what life is for, to have those experiences.

Re: Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
I camped out a lot up to a few years ago. My favourite places were on the High Pennines Moors - amazing sights and sounds in the night [ faint music and voices singing, static electricity running across the rocks and ball lightning running across the heather [this is also called Elf-Fire.] My other favourite place was Lindisfarne - another place which comes alive at night - lots of spirit activity - great place for midnight swimming.

Moonlight and the Sea
Norseman, that sounds 100% wonderful. How beautiful it is to hear singing when you're far away from human beings. I've heard singing by the ocean, standing with my back pressed against the cliffs & with jagged rocks all around, highlighted by the moonlight.

Re: Dust, Wind, and the Paranormal.
Reminds of the north of the UK....we are noted for colder weather and more snow falls.
Having been born and brought up there,I remember snow drifts higher than myself. Workmen early in the morning clearing the roads of snow. I remember my father clearing the front and back doors of our home because we couldn't open the doors.
How the weather has changed in more recent years....milder winters etc.
Is the earth warming up?
