These days it seems every inch of spare grass has to be snapped up and built on, gardens are getting smaller, it seems to me that man is trying to push nature out and it sickens me, as it's all in the name of money they'd rather build ten houses with no garden than two houses with good gardens, I know we all need somewhere to live but why not pull down existing old buildings rather than digging up every patch of grass they can find.

Re: How important is nature?
I just wonder how much longer it will be before they realize we have to have room to grow food?

Re: How important is nature?
Nature brings peace with it. It allows us to escape the stress and horrors that are our daily life. As we lose this peace, the stress continues to build, compounding, until there is an explosion. This is seen quite often in large cities where people have nowhere to go to relax and be at peace...or to allow the Gaia's energy to permeate their soul.
We lose our connection with nature, we lose ourselves.

Re: How important is nature?
I was called to serve Mother Nature several decades ago and I am a volunteer warden in one of Britain's National Parks. I have no false image of Gaia, she is amoral and seeks to maximise conditions for ALL life, not just the human race. I believe that we were given intelligence to act as her servants in caring for ALL life and the planet itself. Whatever happens, the planet will survive and adapt but we may not figure in any future plans that she has for life.
I am fortunate in that where I live in England, there is little land which is fit for agriculture or building on. It is mostly high heather moors with river valleys rising in the Pennines. The area is bleak, barren, and totally beautiful. Home to sheep, birds, rabbits, and odd wanderers like me.
The North of England consists of 4 National Parks, several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty [an EU classification], several World Heritage sites, a wonderful coast, and more castles than you can shake a stick at. The populated areas are in the coastal strip and a few towns in the lower river valleys.

Re: How important is nature?
That's something i'd seriously consider doing myself Norseman if only I lived close enough to a national park, good on you for volunteeering to take care of our countryside/wildlife. I'm glad they can't build on those areas, it sounds lovely where you live

Re: How important is nature?
Violet, I can just about guarantee that there will be a volunteer conservation group near you. Big or small, there are hundreds, if not thousands, in the UK.

Re: How important is nature?
Nature is the very being of all that is good. It is so amazing, but people must take the time to notice. Humans have used and abused our land and pushed out the natural residents of so many areas. It is a sad sight to see. Nature still has so much to teach us.......to those that are still willing to learn (like the fine people here that appreciate it!)
