The most positive number in symbolism, in Christian thought, it has a central importance as the doctrine of the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.Number
three expresses all aspects of creation, including birth life and
death, past, present and future, and mind body and soul and man, woman
and child. The symbolism of three is also linked with the triangle. The
number 3 is also very mystical and spiritual number featured in many
folktales, (three wishes, three guesses, three little pigs, three
bears)

Three is extremely significant in Judaism, as the human condition is
seen as tripartite: mans relationship to himself and the world of his
mind, mans relationship to others in the quote real world unquote and
mans relationship with God. According to the Maharal, this is the
meaning of the three pillars in Avot 1:2--Torah, Avodah (Service of
God), and Acts of Kindness.

Celtic Druid Beliefs - The Number Three


The Druids
believed in three worlds and in transmigration from one to the other:
in a world above this one, in which happiness predominated; a world
below, of misery; and this present state. This transmigration was to
punish and reward, and also to purify the soul. In the present world,
said the Druids, good and evil are so exactly balanced that man has the
utmost freedom and is able to choose or reject either.

Then there are three objects of metempyschosis: to collect into the
soul the properties of all being, to acquire a knowledge of all things,
and to get power to conquer all evil.

They are also, they say, three kinds of knowledge; knowledge of the name of each thing, of its cause, and its influence.

There are three things which continually grow less; darkness,
falsehood, and death. There are three things which constantly increase;
light, life, and truth.
