Re: Ads at top of forum
That was quick - I didn't see a single one - but as folks already know, I don't spend long at the top of the pages anyway for reasons already discussed!

Can't you see any at all mac? i'm still seeing them but only the text ads, not the big picture ads that were up earlier.

I still see them - apparently there's one trick to having a flat belly and they're dying to tell me if I'd just click already!

That's probably why you don't see them... because this is a "free" forum there is a chance that there is nothing that can be done about the ads without paying for them to be removed.

Adblock Plus is a free blocker for Firefox - just adopt Firefox and hey presto - no adverts and no charge

I use it for the 5 websites where I'm a regular contributor - none display incorrectly and you know how intolerant I am about appearance

I don't have a clue but I'm no tech wizz with computers - I set 'em up the way I want and just leave 'em alone after that other than trying to adjust the appearance of this website which is the one which I find most distracting.
I have had limited success here and still have some bits not working as I'd like....
Why not give Firefox another try and leave IE, or whatever you're currently using, set up for comparison?

Internet Explorer (IE) is just a web browser whatever operating system you're using. One of my computers uses Vista, the other has W7 - I use Firefox on each but also Internet Explorer for some purposes - they will work side by side without any problems....

It's a small download and with the Adblock Plus add-on would be easy to trial. Sorry about any links that wouldn't work - this should be OK

Re: Ads at top of forum
For curiosity I disabled Adblock Plus temporarily and ended up with an advertisement at the top of the page. Re-enabling it then reloading the page, the advert disappeared.

Hey V
I had the same problem at my place, it the host - we used to be able to disable ads for members free of charge - now we have to use credits to pay for them to be removed.....not impressed just another way to make money from us.....I will try the firefox add on though as I always use firefox..
I have 'paid' to remove them for 2 months - after that I am not sure...

Unfortunatly webservers aren't cheap, and the hosts need to make some money to cover such things. So usually they incorporate ads onto the forum. Free forums always end up with a price sooner or later. I've seen it so many times. Usually the free forums get tons of ads, and you can either keep the free forum with the ads, or pay to have the ads removed.

There is a remedy.
Firefox and Adblock Plus - both free - deal with the expanding ads and most others. I see only a narrow block of inactive, distorted red text on the Home page, a line of web address in black text at the very bottom....
I also use it to block forum avatars which, for me, add nothing to the value of members' contributions and which I find very distracting and annoying....
God bless the developers of such free software - people after my own heart.

Re: Ads at top of forum
The ads are only visible to guests, or anyone who is not logged in after christmas i'm considering paying to have them not showing at all.
