Can anyone recommend anything to soothe a sore mouth please, i've no ulcers or anythiing but my mouth is very tender inside I think it's something to do with the cold i've got.

A little salty tepid water can sometimes help - that's what I did when I had my wisdom teeth out and it helped.

I think I've got a recipe in one of my 'Grow Your Own Drugs' books for a soothing mouthwash. I know you can use clove oil in solution too.

Right... Had a look, and there's several mouthwash recipies in his two books. This is perhaps the most relevant as it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
This is online, but the book recipe is the same. Having read it, it looks like a bit of a faff and probably not that useful for you, given it needs about 10 days to steep, but here it is anyway:

Hello
I used me baby's Nuck Nuck its a teething ring that ye put in the freezer that has little bump ridges on it. Soft enough for an inffants tender gums so was nice to cool things down.
I used it for an inflamed gum.
