Service To Ohers Empty Service To Ohers

Post  CW Fri Jul 13, 2012 3:57 pm

Do you feel that being a servant is the same as being a slave?
I feel its an honor to serve or be of service to others.
How do you feel about service work?

While I find great pleasure being of service, I feel remorse for those who take it for granted.
I feel anger for those who take kindness for weakness.

    Love to all...

IMO there's a world of difference but i'd replace the word servant with 'being of service' every healer, medium, carer, nurse doctor, (the list is endless...) are being of service, being of service is an honour.

Being a 'slave' suggests being bound to do things, against free will which is entirely different from being of service which comes from a place of compassion and love.

    i'm with Violet
"servant- slave" sounds to me different from "being in service"
a nurse or a healer are not servants though being in service to other..
i think the main difference is that a servant or a slave must do what that are told or asked to do, they can't choose, while a person in service can choose if to give his service or not.. so lets say a doctor on his shift can't say i don't treat this person but i do treat this one.. but he can choose alltogether being a doctor or work at this specific clinic - while a slave can't do that..

if you maybe asking that while "being of service" you become a slave for others to the point where attending others is hurting yourself, where others take you for granted and treat you as a slave or their servant, sadly i must agree that often this happens, but it is where the person giving the service has to learn to put clear limitations and understands he or she has rights as well and not take offensive behavior. (i know sometimes easier said then done.)

I have seen many people who are happy to be called servants for their God, religion, organization or work. While others find it some what offensive.

i think the main difference is that a servant or a slave must do what
that are told or asked to do, they can't choose, while a person in
service can choose if to give his service or not.. so lets say a doctor
on his shift can't say i don't treat this person but i do treat this
one.. but he can choose alltogether being a doctor or work at this
specific clinic - while a slave can't do that..

I like what you share here shayn this would explain why people are offended to be called a servant. "We are born with free will no one can take that away." The servant I speak of are the ones who choose to follow the instruction of others instead of their own. Would these people be considered slaves?

i would call them slaves.. giving up one's freedom is imo being a slave. yet, a person may choose it out of his free will, and be happy about his choice. he will never see himself as a slave.. feeling (in case of those who "Serves GOd) they living the best and meaningful life ever... so i'm not sure if they care much about my thoughts though.
you know you can be a slave to the instructions of others, and you can be a slave to your own ideas and passions - again imo.
if you give up your freedom, even freedom of thought, speak, act, choose, imo you are a slave... but there are people who are very happy to be under such condition.

cw... i will PM you something... it might help you at lease see my views - i prefer not to put it public. (and Violet feel free to spy :) on the pm...)

Thank you shayn, I'm looking forward to your response. I encounter this a lot with people who are married, religious, etc...who practice this servant concept.
