I did read that spirit do have training in how to communicate with us on the earth plane.

To me it would be if you have lived all your life times where you have learnt all that you need to learn.then and only then could you learn to become a guide.you carry on learning in the spirit ,until you are ready to guide others

Possibly but it's far from certain. There's a great deal of uncertainty anyway about what constitutes a guide compared with a helper .

It's been said in other discussions that a guide may be primarily to help with the development of a potential medium. (hence there are comparatively few actual guides)

A helper, though, has been said to be any discarnate whose self-chosen role is to try to support a human as she/he journeys through physical life. If so there will be as many, and possibly even many more, than there are individual human beings.
