I had not heard of him. Interesting, which book are you thinking of reading?

He's new to me too. I was watching something and it spoke about his book called 'Beyond Words - what animals think and feel.' In the end I got his latest book 'Becoming Wild - how animal cultures raise families, create beauty, and achieve peace.'

I'm reading about sperm whales at the moment:

I struggle with how to make people care. I've had fifteen years so far to try to figure out what it means to be a whale. They've helped me understand how I can be a better human being. Now I have to figure out what I'm gonna do for them? That keeps me awake.

It's a good place to pause...

I am hooked. I will have to see if the library has this author. Thank you!

I should have said that the author was quoting Shane Gero. There's a few videos on YouTube about whales. Here's a Ted talk about them: link

When you meet ioned the sperm whale, I thought of the virtual reality experience I was lucky enough to see where the observer is immersed in the ocean and a whale practically “brush” against the observer.

Thank you for sharing the link, it does bring home the message of personal responsibility on many levels.
