Re: Glastonbury Tor
...That reminds me of "The Mists Of Avalon"...
Is that where "The Priestesses" looked through the Mists from Avalon and saw "The Tor" and many "Priests/Monks" worshipping "The Christ"...
What does the word "Tor" mean?
Is it a "Christian Tower" or "The name for a Sacred Hill"?...

Re: Glastonbury Tor
Hi Everyone,
Yeah Mia, it was taken from Chalice Well Gardens. Im going back down in mid February so I'll be dropping in to the Garden to cleanse my crystals as well as heading off to Stourhead which if you have been there you will know is absolutely stunning. Its been over a year now and I miss the place so much. Its just got such a homely feeling for me. Granted I did live down there for a few months and travel back and forward each weekend for almost a year but the feeling of home is even stronger than that, if you know what I mean. Cant wait. Stroll on midFeb.
Glad everyone liked the photo. Actually before I go I must share, the first time I went up the Tor. Up the windy path, climbed all the steps and finally got to the top which is actually quite high up and very steep sided I walked through the Tor. When I came out on the other side, there was all these cows!!!!!!!!!!!! To see a spirit or even a spaceship would not have surprised me as much as this. What on earth were cows doing up there and how the heck did they get up there in the first place?? Those two thoughts were in amongst my first thoughts of Glastonbury Tor. And yes, this is a true story. In fact I might have a photo of that. If I find it I'll post it.
Big Hugs to you all,
Soaring Bird

Re: Glastonbury Tor
Hiya Soaring Bird and all
I love the last picture SB - I think the psychedelic looks groovy!
I went for a long weekend to Glastonbury a couple of years ago. It has a wonderful atmosphere and I felt quite at home. There were a few too many new-age shops for my liking (every other shop!), but I managed to find a cafe that did the most delicious bacon butties.
I didn't get to the Tor (I have a disability that affects mobility - hills are a no-no), but I spent a rather meditative afternoon at the Abbey. It was glorious weather. My b/f went off with his camera and I sat on a bench soaking up the sunshine, history and calm vibes that were all around. Bliss.
Happy Days.

Re: Glastonbury Tor
Hi Squatch,
I love it for the calming vibes and the freedom. You can see some strange fashions there which are totally accepted whereas elsewhere they would be ridiculed. Everyone is so friendly too. Theres a vegeterian cafe on the High St which does some very strange soups but they are absolutely delicious. I forget the name of the cafe. Im not vegeterian, although I tried it for a few months and found it to be a very cleansing experience, possibly even heightening the spiritual awareness but I was missing my chicken pies too much.
I love wandering through all the spiritual\new age shops. I was in one thats just throught the lane behind the veggie cafe, a flambouyant character called Stephen owns it and I was looking at a crystal skull, almost the same size as a human skull. The girl asked me if I wanted to hold it to feel its energies. I did, and while holding it I asked how much it was worth, £1,400 she said. All of a sudden my hands didnt feel so safe and I politely gave her it back and said thanks. And that was a few years ago as well, dont know how much it would be worth now.
Sitting round the Abbey is nice, Ive actually sat there having a meditation before. Thats what I mean, you can sit anywhere and med and nobody takes much notice, oh its just someone meditating whwreas here you would be ridiculed. Yeah cant wait to get back.

Re: Glastonbury Tor
All SB says is true.
Jesuits, Christians, Priests, Witches, Druids, etc all walk side by side.
Chalice Wells Gardens next door to the Tor is another special place to experience.
I attuned my daughter to R2 there.
No one bothered us.
I think the cafe you are referring to is Galatea or something similar.
The Three Monkeys further up on the opposite side of the road only uses organic food, it's prepared and cooked on the premises too.
I believe it is a family run business.
Mustn't forget Labrynth, the book shop.
All books are discounted.
I spend about £25 each time I go there.
Lol, re the cows.
I have seen them too.
In the gift shop in CWG, they sell postcards of the cows on the Tor.

Hiya mia
I knew it was an unusual name, so I've just looked it up. It's called 'Heaphys' and is on one of the corners of the square.
I love the bookshops too. I actually found loads of Richard Bach's books so I bought a few. I'd even ordered one from Amazon months ago that they failed to locate...and there it was waving at me in a bookshop in good old Glastonbury.

PS I used to live in London where 'anything goes' so the dress\actions didn't seem odd to me.

In my favourite deck, this is my favourite card - there is so much legend and mythology in it.
It's the Queen of Cups
The card shows a spiritual woman rising from the centre of a lake, holding a silver cup. A kingfisher flashes overhead and Glastonbury Tor is in the background.
The woman is the Grail Maiden and she holds the sacred chalice of enlightenment. In legend, the Holy Grail was hidden in the Chalice Well which is at the foot of Chalice Hill in Glastonbury. The well water is blood-red due to its iron content and is said to have miraculous healing properties. Despite being "borrowed" by Christianity, Glastonbury was a holy place and a healing shrine at least 1000 years before Christ - it is pagan.
The tor is a conical hill with ridged paths leading to the summit. If you can work out the right way through the path, you will open a door to the land of the Fae. [Still trying, still here !]
IN legend, Glastonbury is said to be the Isle of Avalon since it used to become an island every winter as the surrounding land flooded, before the swamps were drained.
Lastly, the kingfisher, elusive and rarely seen except as a brief flash over the water. This represents a moment of magic, a brief but significant connection to other realms.
Fabulous card in a fabulous tarot.
[sorry about the size of the picture - photobucket is playing silly beggars]

Re: Glastonbury Tor
Forgot to mention the Arthurian legends and the connection to Glastonbury and Avalon, also Joseph of Aramathea.
