Re: first step.
Imo it would be to either contact a spiritualist church and ask for help there (you wouldn't need to join) or find a reputable spiritual development group. In a group it should be run by an experienced medium who will guide you every step of the way. All of that said, I personally believe that meditation is one of the main ingredients when developing mediumship.

Re: first step.
An interesting question.....often wondered myself what the first steps of mediumship are.....do we go through tests to prove we have the makings of a medium?

Re: first step.
My first step was reading and watching everything I could about meditation and talking with the other side. Then through guided meditation I came in contact with mt spirit guides and they helped me with the rest. My guides are always there when I do a reading. But yes it started with meditation.

Re: first step.
I was one never to believe that meditation was a factor for development. I had tested various ones out and never thought it helped. Until, I stopped. So speaking from the opposite end of the spectrum, I can agree with the above posts.
Meditation and freeing of the mind is very necessary in development.

Re: first step.
I don't know whether it is because my mind is too active and I can never keep the meditation going for long,I only seem to be able to receive anything from spirit when dropping off to sleep. Meditation frightens me in case I go too deeply and wouldn't be able to control what comes through...
The mind or consciousness to me is a deep, deep well. What knows what dwells in that well?

Re: first step.
I always surround myself in gods white light. I fall asleep meditating all the time. Not being scared brings good energy. Really what is there to be scared of its ur mind and body and ask that only spirit that walk in the light of god can communicate with u.

Re: first step.
I feel like your never given more than you can handle. Set your intent prior to the meditation stating what you wish to receive out of the mediation. There are simpler forms that you may be able to take on with success. Maybe to even prepare you for something deeper in the future. They say that "people watching" is a simple form of meditation. Next time you go to town, stop somewhere that you may be able to take advantage of this method. Take in all that you see. Its possible you will start to get random images, or feelings about what you observe. These baby steps give you the patience to free your mind of everything that surrounds you other than the subjects your observing. Another that I have used is sound. Different frequencies spark chemicals in the brain. If your able get some headphones and find a comfortable spot, close your eyes and just listen. Intent to me, is pretty vital.SpiritVoices wrote:I don't know whether it is because my mind is too active and I can never keep the meditation going for long,I only seem to be able to receive anything from spirit when dropping off to sleep. I did a search and came up with a few others...
- counting 100 breaths.
- use a candle, putting focus on it. Using both these together seems interesting.

Re: first step.
I might just try that,if I can stop myself dropping off to sleep.
I tried something like that in bed one night and fell asleep.
The problem is,I feel they wait until I am in a deep sleep then they come through...they wake me but I miss half of the message.
So what I do hear is a few words which don't make any sense.
I ask them again and they disappear.....stubborn lot!

Sounds like they know the best time to get the best connection. Next time tell them to make sure your coherent enough to respond...LOLSpiritVoices wrote:I might just try that,if I can stop myself dropping off to sleep.

Re: first step.
These are not dreams. I hear spirit talking to me....like in a conversation. Chatting away as if on the front door step.
By the time I wake up,I only get the last few words...
In fact I get so frustrated,I shout at them. 'Please talk to me when I am awake...'!
The latest conversation was the last one I described....But I missed the beginning of it...So had no idea what he was talking about,....

Re: first step.
IMO meditation disciplines the mind and again Imo this is the key part of developing mediumship

Re: first step.
Trust me, Joanie, I know what you are feeling. I could not meditate, I got frustrated so I stopped because I could not be bothered at all. So, Then Along my way spirit encouraged me to do it. I practised and practised with the help of violet and all of you, I found my best solution, Visualisation meditation suits me best, because it is giving my mind something to do. And now where I am, I can slip into a meditative state in seconds. But, Having an active mind has nothing to do with meditation, Its what makes meditation the way it is.
Even just sitting with your eyes closed and relaxing is good enough.

I can feel myself either going into trance or would it be falling asleep?
That terrifies me....

Joanie you'd be amazed how many do fear it, it's a perfectly natural reaction as you're stepping into the unknown, don't be ashamed of it Joanie This is why group settings are often best for those practising meditation especially in the early days
