Re: what do they mean?
Hi Mac, you mean these.......... this one indicates the member is female, (the blue one being male.)
these are the member's astrological signs, one is their usual zodiac sign the other is their chinese astrological sign, these symbols plus the avatar they will only show up if you fill in that part of your profile and edit your profile preferences to display them. Some members like them some don't.

thanks, Violet.
I can't see how to stop the signature and symbols of other members from being displayed - is that possible?

Hi mac, you can't make the other members' profile info invisible, would you want to do that?

Yes because it would then be consistent with other websites I use.
I'm easily distracted by anything on display - remember the scrolling header banner? - that still annoys and distracts me even though I've been seeing it for ages - the moving icons in the icon library do the same when I'm writing - it's just me who is very sensitive to peripheral distractions - the plainer the better for me because I'm a text person - graphics mostly baffle and annoy me.
So, yes, I wish I could turn off certain sections.

Re: what do they mean?
Take some member's posting - it shows a gender icon, a small picture avatar, and then a huge block of signature text, often bigger than the active content.
All I want to see is what I want to read - the personal profile info. can be reached should I wish to see it just by visiting the member's profile.
I don't want to have to see the signature text on every posting, nor a display saying 'Member' or 'Newbie' I know who is who as I'm a regular so for me I don't need that info.
I guess it's just how the software is written and I'm not complaining as it's all for free. But it would be that much better if I could tailor the page displays....
Guess I'm just peculiar....

well you could turn off images from displaying.... which would leave the same box, but with text in the box... but that will kill every image that displays period.

Is there an option for that in the user cp?

Re: what do they mean?
I've been fiddling around and been part successful, part nearly messed up....
I can use Adblock Plus to get rid of certain unwanted items on an individual member basis. I tried that and it worked. The other stuff comes from photobucket and blocking that website to block images also loses the 'Reply' button etc - messed that up once before...
So I'll just leave well alone if I'm not sure what trouble I might get into!

Re: what do they mean?
LOL
I can only speak for me mac as to why I have a dragon avatar; reason being is I've had encounters with them.
Barney was my son's favorite before he passed away, I've encountered them during OBEs, I talk to them in me sleep.
Just a few reasons I have a picture of a dragon flying in space.
Love to all...

Avatars ain't one's photo....what Joanie had asked about.
I don't use an avatar because I can't relate to them and don't understand what they're supposed to mean - Taurean feet of clay.
To me an avatar is pure fantasy.
