Re: Do we keep our personality..
Dont see any reason to think we wouldnt. We are who we are in our soul. Our personality is made from that.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
An interesting question.
My first thought was, which other side are we talking about?
When we first leave the body we find our selves in the non physical earth plane, but most of people I know and those on this board would move on to the astral realm, or what some call the higher astral realm. Why I say this is, when we cross from the earth realm to the astral realm we leave behind any program we used to learn in the physical realm. It is down loaded and can be used if we return.
To make a further point, what is really the personality and what makes up the characteristics expressed by a personality?
Personality = body/mind/spirit.
Locking at this it will be clear, the personality is a blend of thing, the body of cause which is grown out of mother earth, the mind which at best is something like a computer program floating in midair around the globe, and us spirit.
All three have influence, and will build what we know as the personality, and it's characteristics.
Toward the end of an incarnation cycle the spirit will gain more and more influence. So, the characteristics of the personality will be shaped to a greater degree by the spirit, hence more and more characteristics will be retained, since they came from spirit in the first place.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
Pagan Cosmology [especially Celtic] is somewhat different. The model is based on three realms of being.
The Physical "Middle Earth" - the realm of the body and the conscious mind. The realm that we humans are supposed to cherish, but often fail to.
Underworld - the Realm of the Spirit and the subconscious mind. This comes into the pagan cycle of Life i.e. Death -Renewal-Rebirth. Renewal takes place in Underworld under the care and protection of the Dark Aspects of the Lord and Lady. Notice, this is not just a pagan equivalent of the christian Hell. It is a place of nurturing. No judgement or punishment.
Finally, the Heavens, the realm of the Ascended Spirits and the Higher Consciousness. This is seen as an aspiration which we may or may not achieve momentarily - the important aspect is the striving, the journey rather than the destination.
Clearly, a cycle of re-incarnation figures in this cosmology.
Do we keep our personality ? Unsure about that but I do have past-life memories of five lives for sure and I think that I am walking in my own footsteps a lot of the time - being in places I have been before, doing things I have often done before and always in the same part of England.

Agree whole hearted with your answer, detlef.
We mature as we grow older. So the personality changes and matures.
We become less of the child and more of the adult.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
I believe in all the possibilities, because I believe in the Infinite. Personally I do not wish to cling to who I am in this life, but to allow myself to be changed by my experiences in the hereafter. I tend to think that my self in very small, and I believe that we have also an opportunity to again merge with the source of creation. That vibration is so high and with complete understanding that our old selves is very small in comparison. Of course fear is the way when we think about death, at least quite often it is, and naturally we wish to remain who we are. I think, for myself, the answer is a trust and a faith in God and the process he has laid out. He is the creator of Life, mine included, and I trust in His will.
He told me once "Ask and it shall be given". He has never let me down.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
A point I was thinking about the other day. Once we are in spirit,do our personalities change?
Do we realise that at times that we may have shown unkindness to others?
That we may have hurt others by words or deeds whether unknowingly or deliberately?
Bringing reincarnation in,is that one of the reasons why we return to another life?
To amend those faults? To progress to another kinder personality?

As long as you are close to earth, meaning in the non physical earth realm, probably not.
Once you leave the earth realm and enter the astral realm, you know everything, and might have a giggle with the one who in your last life time gave you a hard time, or the other way around. After all, in order to evaluate you life, you need to know everything. No emotions, no guilt.
No need to amend anything. If however you enter an other body, your last life program, if I may say, will be downloaded into your DNA and you will play it out, or continue playing it out. There can be the same players or other players. It does not matter. Even so, we prefer the one we are close to.

I understand now,Detlef.
It is actually what I expected to hear. We are bound to have connections with those we lived our last life with, even some from previous lives before the last one. So memories even though hidden can come to the fore occasionally like when we say to someone.....'Do I know you?'.
We don't know them but something tells us....we do!
Thanks Detlef.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
I am so sorry if I bumped this topic but it has been on my mind lately, and I didn't want to create a new one!
I believe very strongly you will always be you. However, I think you will always grow and change. I believe we are infinite consciousness having a human experience. I think we are indeed eternal and will always have our personality. (Who we are) but at the same time you will grow and learn and it may change you a bit... but you will always be you.
I think death is simply a consciousness shift. I somewhat believe you always return home as well. You can never get lost. You are always being guided and you know how it all works.
When I started astral travel I learned very quickly I was exactly who I was now while I was navigating the astral planes. I mostly found myself in the real time zone if any of you are familiar with astral travel and out of body experiences. I would often walk around my house and if I did something silly while I was out I would use the same humor as I did when I am here in the physical. You are definitely you no doubt about it. I flew to the high school track once and had a crash landing in the middle of the field from about 500 feet in the air. This did not hurt at all. I heard a "THUNK" and I laughed really hard. I knew about upcoming events that the next day was going to bring... I even have thought about what I wanted for dinner or if I had plans with family later that day while I was out of body. The cool thing about astral travel is once I am out of body I no longer have an identity. I am more like a point of consciousness. I can shape shift and all of that fun stuff... But I am no longer "Cody" I am more than that.
I am consciousness just like everything else. I had no identity, but at the same time I still had my personality. I believe out of body experiences and near death experiences go hand in hand. I think when one dies, they are essentially having an out of body experience they just don't have a "vehicle" (your body) to come back to. If you want to rid your fear of death I highly suggest to start practicing out of body experiences! Everyone can do it. It just takes practice and dedication. I have hugged my deceased grandpa. (Just got chills on my crown chakra after typing that)
It will rid your fear of death forever. Remember that EVERYONE on earth is going to experience death at some point. I don't even call it death. If someone tells me so and so died... I usually think to myself "Oh he had a shift of awareness to another plane!" Astral Projection is quite amazing.

I know we have different bodies, and one is an astral body wich is the link between heaven and earth?
As for the topics goes I just like to add, I dont believe in the 3 reals story, and im a hindu. We have a name for krishna triloki nath, I thinks, which means his the ruler fo the 3 worlds, but this is on tv! lol.
I think theres more than 3 worlds.

Re: Do we keep our personality..
Having been on the brink of death once, I knew - emphatically - that my energy would go on but not me as I knew myself...my ID/personality/ego. That was a massive disappointment and a wake up call! It's our soul that is our essence and it is this that lives on...NOT our ego/worldly ID - this is the illusion (as so many spiritual disciplines have pointed out).

Never put two and two together for this. It makes total sense. I have always associated the dream state being so close to death that never ventured any other thought.Skyscanner wrote: I believe out of body experiences and near death experiences go hand in hand. Thanks for clarifying what you originally posted. I agree too, i.e. our personality/ego doesn't survive death but our true essence/soul does.Native spirit wrote: You can not be what you are not despite what you may think your soul is what goes on,that is the true you,the essence of what you are comes from the soul,so it is all one thing
