I think it's really cool that lots of people, including a number on this site, are open to offering readings on-line. I responded to one offer (not on this site) with a brief request for information regarding a recently deceased female friend, using a nickname for her that might naturally be read as male. The would-be reader replied with a reading confidently referring to my friend multiple times as "he." I didn't want to embarrass the reader or start a fight, so I PM'd with the correct gender info. The reader responded, in effect: "I just assumed your friend was a man and didn't bother to try to determine the gender of the spirit." Does that sound plausible to people with experience doing readings? Would a spirit's gender usually be obvious, or would you need to explore a bit to determine it?

Re: Does this strike you as dodgy?
I wouldn't say its dodgy as lots of mediums work differently. If mediums tend to get something wrong th will try to somewhat move on from the subject. But, some other mediums tend to try and clean up the mess.

I feel the medium would have sensed something.....Wardenclyffe wrote:I think it's really cool that lots of people, including a number on this site, are open to offering readings on-line. She may not have wanted to embarrass you....
In the spirit world I would say that the soul or spirit has no gender....

I agree with Joanie. The only gender there is in spirit is the one that the individual spirit chooses to display....and that can change any time the spirit wishes to change it.

Re: Does this strike you as dodgy?
Hi Wardenclyffe, and welcome. I think the reader deserves a little credit as they were very honest and admitted they had just assumed and not gone to the trouble of finding out the sex.
Sometimes the sex is obvious, other times it isn't, a lot also depends on the type of mediumship and if you hear spirits with some people you hear the spirits in your own voice, a lot of mediums work by sense alone and never see or hear the spirits.
If you lose a friend or relative I firmly believe they retain their sex, if they were female in life they'll be female as a spirit, a female energy.

Re: Does this strike you as dodgy?
Hi Wardenclyffe,
Every medium works differently so i cant say what the medium you had works like i can only say how i work when i see spirit i see them in solid form.so its easier to identify them.but not all mediums see they hear more,or see outlines.so its easy to get mixed up with what gender they are.
