    Found this on the Internet.
    Rather interesting.....

    From
    Believers and Skeptics.

Audiences paid to see Houdini expose the tricks of fraudulent mediums.
In the years following the sensation that greeted the Fox sisters, demonstrations of mediumship (séances and automatic writing, for example) proved to be a profitable venture, and soon became popular forms of entertainment and spiritual catharsis. The invention of the telegraph in 1844 led spiritualists to claim that an unseen "spiritual telegraph" to the dead also existed.[14] The Foxes were to earn a living this way and others would follow their lead.[1][4] Showmanship became an increasingly important part of Spiritualism, and the visible, audible, and tangible evidence of spirits escalated as mediums competed for paying audiences. As independent investigating commissions repeatedly established, most notably the 1887 report of the Seybert Commission,[15] fraud was widespread, and some of these cases were prosecuted in the courts.[16]
Despite numerous instances of chicanery, the appeal of Spiritualism was strong. Prominent in the ranks of its adherents were those grieving the death of a loved one. Many families during the time of the American Civil War had seen their men go off and never return, and images of the battlefield, produced through the new medium of photography, demonstrated that their loved ones had not only died in overwhelmingly huge numbers, but horribly as well. One well known case is that of Mary Todd Lincoln who, grieving the loss of her son, organized séances in the White House which were attended by her husband, President Abraham Lincoln.[13] The surge of spiritualism during this time, and later during World War I, was a direct response to those massive battlefield casualties.[17]is on the internet.

I was at a MBS (Mind, body, Spirit) fair this weekend and to satisfy my curiosity I went to see a demonstration of 'Mediumship'.

I would describe myself as something of a Skeptic on some subjects and the demonstration didn't challenge my viewpoint. It seemed to be a mix of cold reading and vague details that could apply quite easily to many there.

I would think that at a large event, the chances of having something really ring true in connecting with people or messages, wouldn't be the easiest thing to do , even for the best of mediums.

The problem with fairs is too many readings can wear the medium out.

They need a calm and an unhurried period of time.
I know many sceptics,my son being one of them....no way can I change his mind....

    I say I am a believer and I think mostly I am.
But occasionally the doubts creep in.

Like over the last few weeks.     I haven't heard any spirit voices for a good while.   Whereas a few months ago I was awakened from sleep nearly every night.   Little voices in my ear.
Just chatting to me or themselves.
Haven't heard from any guides or the one who was constantly with me.
My tall man with the black hair and black eyes....
    He seems to have disappeared.....:worry:

    Every new place I look at,I don't like!    Choosy,aren't I?

sorry to hear you are having problems sleeping Voices

    choosy is good !

I have an idea, you are thinking of moving .... so why not try asking your guides for some guidance in regards to where might be a good place to move too ? this would give you a conversation starter.....then listen, or just be aware of signs they could be sending to you, it might be something other than conversation, so keep your eyes & ears open !
Ask them to help you find someplace you do like !!  :flo:

Strangely enough,I have been told by two mediums not to move.   This is going back a while.   It's a lovely estate where I live, friendly people but the social life here is becoming boring.  We have own social club bust since a new manager took over the estate,it is falling apart.
In other words I am bored to death....
I need company and a social life but i'm not getting it.

So decided to move nearer to my daughter, new area and new place to live.
But having difficulties finding what I want.
So getting a little fed up...and bored out of my mind.
But I will try what you say,Frisky....let's see what happens...
Where I would really like to return to is Australia!:worry:

interesting on the two mediums advice

I have it, you could volunteer to be the new social club director ! You would be great !

yes, now I remember you mentioning wanting to move closer to your daughter and all the hassles/red tape involved with doing so. Do you still know people in Australia ?

Let me know how it goes if you chat with your guides about this , I hope you find a solution !

    Voices.

    Tut tut tut.... :giggles:

One reason of not being able to hear is you're tuned in properly. Its a psychic ability. Tune your clairaudience into the right frequency like a radio.

OMaybe your guides are teaching you pataince.

Anyone ever heard of Jon Donnis?   He runs a site for those who do not believe in the paranormal.    Great guy but boy! Never invite him on any paranormal site.

He will argue the pants off a horse that the spirit world do not exist or ghosts.

I don't believe anyone truly believes until they receive their own personal evidence of life after death,  I have had mine so I believe, but it doesn't matter to anyone else how good my proof was, it doesn't prove anything to anyone else.

    This.

It's also why science and theology/spirituality/etc./whatever will always be an emotive subject; people's experiences are so very 'personal' by their very nature, and so when science comes along and says of (for example) someone's NDE "That must have been very moving for you but it could be explained by x,y or z" then it's hard for the individual not to interpret that as a personal attack.

I agree Dilettante, it is so very personal but for anyone to nay say it is like being called a liar, even though in the example you gave that is not being said at all.
