If you are unable to visit Stonehenge (in Wiltshire, England) in person, you may be interested in this virtual tour, courtesy of English Heritage

Did they ever discover what actually Stonehenge was used for?
I visited there once many years ago, when the public were able to stroll around without barriers enclosing it....
Think I had a photo taken of it from those years ago.
I came from the North of the UK,you ever get up there?
Some very old castles of historic value there...

Must admit I've never actually visited the site even though I lived in the West Country for many years.  I did go past it once with my husband but it was some distance away.  Would love to visit it though.

Ha Ha ! Stonehenge - a Walt Disney spectacular ! We have our own ancient henge in the North and we still use it for it's original purpose.

Thornborough Henge - as old as Stonehenge and a mile and a half long, end to end.

avianscepter wrote:A guess, but I think stonehenge was a place of events.  That is why the stone pillars were erected.  I look at it from a stonemason's perspective.  Maybe it was not really religious but a place for events like celebrations, contests, or festivals something of that nature.  Of course I am just a mere American so what do I know about landmarks.
It was all that and more, Avian. Recent archeology puts Stonehenge at the heart of a community of 10000 people. Also evidence has been found of Orcadians being there [the people responsible for the 6000 year-old temple complex in Orkney]
