Are there any real benefits from this or is it purely a 'feel good' therapy, (which actually is a good enough reason in itself!)

Yup I know someone who does it I could have one, but i'm worried about the damage it may do to my hair

Definately it's funny how sensitive the head /scalp can be, I find having my hair brushed very soothing and relaxing, an excellent way to de srtress (if you can find someone willing to do it,) it doesn't work brushing your own hair.
