Re: Solar Storm
Hello Violet
have previous reports from NASA on this one!!!

Every so often we hear one of these end-of-the-world stories. There's a meteor that's going to hit earth, or the sun's going to lose its gravitational pull. And generally we can ignore them because they're the calculator speculations of some shed-scientist crackpot.
Today we heard another: The earth is going to be hit by a barrage of solar flares in 2013 when the sun's magnetic energy cycle coincides with its 11-year peak in super-powered sun spot activity -- but this time it wasn't a maverick amateur making the predictions, nope, it was NASA.
We think the word you're looking for is "yipes".
The once in a generation occurrence has gone broadly unnoticed in the past but has the potential to destroy all the computer systems our modern world relies on -- bank accounts, medical records, business records, entire websites, and yes, your Farmville account, could all disappear.
The solar flares generate massive shifts in magnetic activity resulting in computer systems everywhere failing. Potentially leading to blackouts, communications failing, TV and radio networks disappearing and, worst of all, the internet, and all its awesome websites (like Asylum) vanishing.
Dr Richard Fisher, head of NASA's ‘Heliophysics’ Division said: "We know its coming but we don't know how bad it's going to be.
"Systems will just not work. The flares rapidly change the magnetic field on the earth, like a lightning bolt. That is the solar effect."
Professor Richard Harrison of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire told the Metro: "The sun is now waking up. It's been very inactive but there's a lot of debate about how dramatic it’s waking up will be. It's not scaremongering."
I have much more from my researches if you want it!
2013 is the year to worry about --not 2012!

Re: Solar Storm
Thanks for that Peter, i'm not worried though
wasn't all this said about the year 2000 or am I getting mixed up

Sorry Violet
There is NO comparison between the two--the millenium 'thing' fits in with so many 'armegeddon' stories--from planet X to invasion by the martians!
This one is REAL--last ocurred in 1752--with a mini one in 1864!!!! BUT WE DID NOT HAVE SATELITES THEN!
Also check out your local travel agents--they are advertising trips to finland and similar places to view the 'Northern Lights' as never before!
In 1752 and 1864 there is documented evidenve that the northern lights were brighter and further south than normal!
I repeat the world did not rely on satelites AT ALL in 1752 and 1864!!!!

Last night saw a low level of solar activity and warnings were sent out to expect satelite disruption.

Re: Solar Storm
Thanks Peter.
Had a small amount of problems today but not as bad as yesterday.
BT said it was lines connected to internet output.
A good excuse without explaining why.
I must have missed the warnings.

Hi Joanie
The warnings were to people like 'Air Traffic Control' etc not to individuals like ourselves.
The internet is linked to satelites for many purposes--for example we have members in America and in Australia and many other places around the world--their words on here would have to go via a satelite!

Hi Joanie
This is not general news!!
I have found various websites that are more truthful than the standard!
I research things in depth!
