Is mediumship and psychic abilities hereditary? Because my gift has been passed down through my family. How is it passed through families?

Perhaps it is the more developed intuitive part of the brain that is genetically passed down.

Does anyone else believe that eveyone has the ability to communicate with the spirit world? Thus meaning that it might not have to be passed down?

It's all relative and often pretty subjective.
A kid who has grown up with people talking of being psychic around them lots, is probably more likely to believe themselves to be psychic at an earlier age than someone growing up having heard little about what psychic is.
The cynic in me also suspects that claims of being 4th generation psychic etc is sometimes used to add kudos to their psychic ability - as if somehow if its an ability that their gran had, then they must be good. But that's illogical really.
How we use psychic ability is more notable than whether we have it.

Yes I do :) The ability is not always recognised, or believed or developed or even used.

It appears it could be but it's not necessarily the case - not all family similarities are necessarily down to heredity. Even for something that does appear to be hereditary it had to begin somewhere in someone. And simply because sensitivity may have been passed down from another family member (may have) it doesn't mean that all spiritual/psychic sensitivity has to be hereditary - if it ever is......

There are only ever possibilities in this kind of thing Mac - some possibilities seem to be more likely than others, due to personal experience - but there are usually other plausibles too.
