giving yourself a reading Empty giving yourself a reading

how do you feel about it?
i allways feel it is a bit tricky give myself a reading, i feel i read what i like into the cards, and normaly to the negative side of things :(
also the opetions are so open when i read for myself and i'm not sure what connections to do...and even if i ask a very specific questions still i find myself connecting the cards to whatever i fear the most. even if not asked about.
but even without the negativity, it feels more blury and unclear. so i hardly ever give myself a reading.

Hi Shayn, I think even very experienced readers have dificulty reading for themselves, it is hard to be objective as you will see what you want to see rather than what is actually there. I've just about given up trying to read for myself

I usually ask others for readings if the opportunity arises and I feel I need one, but i've found that isn't very often these days

I would suggest that for self reads, you get a Tarot deck that you really like and then only use it for readings on yourself. Bond a meaning to each of the cards and then work slowly through them. That way you will know the meaning you have assigned to each card and this makes reading far more objective and easy :)

radiclol, the first thing you need is to fully trust yourself and your guides or the universe. once there is trust, this fear will just go away. i can tell from myself, that sometimes i have no idea what i'm talking about, and my words makes no sense to me, but thay mean alot to those i'm giving the reading to. and this is the most importent.

atm i'm going over the meanings and stuff and getting a rough idea, but what advice can you give me when attempting a reading? do i try and get things clairvoyantly or just the logical meanings?

pointers would be GREAT :) x

My best pointer would be to relax and just let it come :asmile: , and if you want to practice on me for some honest feedback you can do, start small would be the other advice I would give, when you feel confident enough you could have a practice thread here, i'm sure our members would help you all they could with their feedback, we all have to start somewhere and this is the whole point of this forum, to help people and give them a platform where they won't be mocked or discouraged :hugz:

one more point to remeber Rad is that sometimes you need to forget whatever you read in the books and learnt about the cards and follow the story the cards tells you.

If anyone wants any help learning or any pointers on reading then I would love to help.

I don't want to blast my own trumpet or step on anyone's toes but I have worked with the cards for over ummm more than thirty years now, omg I am nearly old and grey lol! With Tarot, confidence is needed and that comes from knowledge and experience. The easiest way to lose confidence is to be unprepared and stumble over meanings. But learning Tarot does not need to be hard or difficult memorising, it is fun and enjoyable and really doesn't take that long if you use the 'Trigger Method' of learning.

i just read this small meaning of the devil card and hmm.. are they insinuating homosexuality is bad?

Devil - something or someone has
unfair control over you. Also indicates S&M, abuse (of drugs
or people), homosexuality. Beside Death it can indicate a VERY bad
    person.

Which deck are you using as the meanings vary from deck to deck sometimes.

Some have a very strong christian base and so I'm afraid they quite possibly are insinuating that. Lets look at the deck first though :)

    giving yourself a reading RW15

The Horned beast towering over two naked people in chains. But the chains are loose, they could remove them and run away and dress themselves, so there is an element of choice in this card. Yes one figure is male one female but 100 years ago that was only to be expected. Nowadays some decks have two women or two men, there are gay versions and stronger versions of the card too. The main essence is the devil inside all of us, we can choose what we do. The nakedness shows that nothing is being hidden these are our most inner desires and thoughts at a basic almost animal or instinctive level.

The devil figure is large and oppressive, and made up of the worst parts of different animals, eagle talons, huge bat wings, horns from a ram, a ficticious creature that does not exist except in our minds. The devil within. Can we control it or will it control us?

What does the card make YOU feel , what do you see in this card? Which bit jumps out at you? Do you focus on the devil, the chains or the tiny plinth he is standing on or some other aspect? Can you describe it in a few key words? Fear? Oppression? Drunkeness, sexual thoughts?

    hi cosmic
i don't like to give myself a reading, i feel i read into the cards what i want or better say my fears, so i avoid doing that, when i need advice for myself i turn to my guides and spirits and try to channel the answer or something like this, i ask for clues and find them around me, and sometimes i'm too lost and hear or see nothing. lately i found that using oracle cards, the unicorn cards, i can ask for myself to some extant. but again, i think that asking for myself is not something good for me. on the other hand i used my cards to meditate or get a general guideness..
but yes, trust, and trusting yourself is the first and most impornt thing to do and have.
one more thing, it took me about 13 years to be ready to give readings to others. so don't push it, take your time, learn your cards by feeling, when the right time will come, you will give readings.

i mostly agree crystal that this is the best way into using the cards. as at the same time it teaches you to trust yourself and your feelings.
