    Planetry Energies Empty Planetry Energies

So here we are: this is the week astrologers have been on about all year, the week when six planets converge on the first degrees of Aries, Libra and Capricorn, and the Moon arrives in Cancer to activate the famous cardinal grand cross. You may have noticed increased tension last Friday/Saturday when Mars entered the picture and the Moon was in Aries and activating the T-square: now add Venus to the pile-up of planets, and put the Moon in tense aspect to everything by the end of the week, and we’ll be right in the thick of it.

There has just been terrible flooding in Pakistan, and more natural disasters are possible under this amount of planetary tension. The Wikileaks scandals will continue to embarrass governments and the military. The stock markets are likely to be volatile and unpredictable. You may find yourself having to interact with people who behave most unreasonably. Try to stay grounded.

    Here’s how the week unfolds:

August 2: As the week begins we have Mars conjunct Saturn at 2 and 1 degrees of Libra respectively, Jupiter and Uranus opposing them at 3 and 0 degrees of Aries, and Pluto squaring all of the above at 3 Capricorn. Venus is at the tail end of Virgo, within influence of the cardinal T-square. The Moon is in steadying Taurus making us stubborn but also slower to react than we have been, which is no bad thing with this much angst floating around. The Jupiter/Pluto square is exact today, giving a possibility that today sees the end of the share rally that’s been happening for the past month (but don’t quote me on that, it’s all too volatile to call).

August 3/4: Mars moves to 3 Libra, squaring Pluto and opposing Jupiter exactly. As Mars moves away from the restraining influence of Saturn and into the tension of the aspects with Pluto and Jupiter, the violence associated with Mars may become more evident.

August 4-6: Moon in Gemini sextiles the Aries planets and trines the Libra planets allowing for some release of tension, especially through communication.

August 6: Moon enters Cancer at 6 pm Eastern, 3 pm Pacific, and 11 pm in the UK. During the following eight hours the Moon squares Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter, opposes Pluto, then squares Mars. The Moon moves fast and thus normally its aspects are felt briefly as mood changes or momentary events, but with this extraordinary configuration of planets we would anticipate the transference of lunar light from one planet to the next would act as a trigger to the culture-changing, major, slow-forming aspects between the planets.

August 7: Venus, already in orbs of influence of the cardinal cross, now moves officially into the picture, at 0 degrees Libra, and immediately opposes Uranus. Sudden changes in relationships can occur under this influence, and it is good for breaking free of limitations and inhibitions around sexuality and creativity.

August 8: Venus conjuncts Saturn. With the opposition to Uranus still in place, this can be quite confusing. You want to play by the rules, and you want to break out of convention too. You want to relate and yet, you don’t want to, or the other person doesn’t want to or is unavailable for whatever reason. In general, Saturn and Uranus in aspect to Venus are not favorable to intimacy. Might be best to wait till later in the month (August 21) when Mars and Venus are conjunct in mid Libra, further away from Saturn’s influence. That will be a better time for romance and closeness.

All in all, the potential for a wild week is here. Some of us will feel it more than others, and if your birthday is at the beginning of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn you’ll be especially affected. But this is too big to only affect individuals: we are living through a sea change in how we perceive our reality. Keep your eyes open because there will be some interesting stuff coming into the public awareness this week, some strong reactions, and perhaps some radical shifts in international relations.
