Stilling the Mind Empty Stilling the Mind

    STILLING THE MIND
This is virtually impossible but I use a couple of techniques which I find help a little, the first is to imagine I’m stood inside my mind which is like a square room and see my thoughts as boxes, I then push these boxes to the back of my mind leaving the front clear to work in, another way is to simply draw a dark curtain across them, the thoughts are still there I’ve just put them to one side for a while. Stilling the Mind Empty To sleep I must

Post  Soaring Bird Sat Oct 03, 2009 3:01 am

I used to picture myself in a white round room. All my clothing is white. The chair Im sitting on is white. There are many doors in this room. They are all white. Everytime a door trys to open to let a thought in visually in my minds eye I slam it shut (but there is no sound) Eventually after quite a few doors have tried to open and have been shut again, there is silence in white. No me, no doors, no chair. Just white silence.
I forgot I used to do this. Im going to try it now and maybe finally I'll get to sleep.

The method I used to use was to picture my mind as a funnel. As a stray thought would enter, it would slide away down the funnel. After a little bit, no stray thoughts stuck out.
