Not a bad day here,Violet. Took myself off to town, did some shopping, met up with a few friends, came home and collapsed on the settee after spending too much money.....

I always look for the positives. Whilst it may be getting colder, the autumn gives us a wondrous,
colourful display of leaves shed from trees. We choose what we focus on and this shapes our reality.

Autumn
I really do enjoy Autumn, I love the different colours and earthy rustic leaves, I also enjoy walking on crisp leaves, the smell of the crispness in the air, the darker nights drawing in, an extra hour in bed and snuggling up by the fire with a cup of hot tea.
So as Autumn is approaching I would like to wish you all

Re: Autumn?
Autumn this year feels even earlier than usual, perhaps because we've seen almost nothing of what some/many of us would like as summer. I'm not a sun-worshiper, don't strip off and bake my skin, but I do enjoy brightness, blue sky, a little warmth. All the latter have been in short measure yet again this year.
I'm not one for romantic notions about autumn although I readily acknowledge its traditional role in a four-season year that we in the UK used to experience. Sadly - for me - now we have something else, now experience weather patterns that leave the UK in its seventh year of disappointing summers.
The good aspect of autumn for me is that it marks my imminent escape for a few months from the gloomy skies and dismally low light levels we have so much of the time in the UK.

Re: Autumn?
Hi Mac I agree our weather has not been great especially summer for many year's, lots more rain shower's and cold snap's and summer seems to take longer to arrive in the UK lol.
How lovely to get away for a few months, do you go anywhere nice?.
Earth Angel I love all the season's summer and autumn are proberbly my most favourites, however I enjoy spring and winter too, not when it is constantly freezing tho. Years ago I used to get quite low in mood's when Autumn and the dark morning and nights came, but I then decided to try and embrace it rather than get depressed about it, and look for the positives, such as cosy nights in by the fire, and wind down watching dvd's, the past few years I have started crafting thing's for family and friends ready for christmas gifts so that keeps me occupied and motivated.

Re: Autumn?
My wife and I head for Arizona. I understand how your mood used to be low but I'm unable to rise above it as is my wife. It's the seemingly endless 'cauldron lid' cloud that shrouds our otherwise beautiful country that clobbers me. It's been that way for several summers recently and the major reason those summers have been such a trial for us. It's not even down to rain because it's not been that wet a spring and summer, just dismally cloudy.Golden Angel wrote:Hi Mac I agree our weather has not been great especially summer for many year's, lots more rain shower's and cold snap's and summer seems to take longer to arrive in the UK lol.

Re: Autumn?
Mac that did make me chuckle, I can understand tho how some people can suffer SAD it really must be awful for them. How lovely for you and your wife to go to Arizona tho, do you tend to come back to the UK spring time?. My Godparents go to India every Dec-march as they can't stand the cold weather here, plus it helps with my godfather's COPD.

Re: Autumn?
I'm glad it tickled you. Yes I feel for the folk who get SAD but, thankfully, there are devices on the market that can help. We leave early November returning late March, about 5 months away. I can understand why India draws your godparents to India. On another, but related, tack it looks like the oft-forecast changes to climate resulting in more extreme weather events may have started. Storms are forecast to become more frequent and extreme, weather perhaps less predictable, season by season. The disappearance of sea ice in summer and glaciers melting at an unprecedented rate, monsoons much more extreme in south Asia, hurricanes becoming more intense in the Caribbean may suggest those predictions aren't far off the mark. Just look at Harvey that hit Houston and Irma about to trash the Caribbean islands before impacting mainland America.
Maybe the UK will suffer because of the jetstream being displaced by climate change, its effect on our weather already marked over the past seven years or so, extremes of various kinds the outcome.
Not a nice prospect.

Re: Autumn?
In general the UK doesn't get many extremes of weather - in that we're very fortunate. Even with global climate change we're probably not going to experience them in the immediate future either.
But a lack of extremes doesn't mean the climate we might end up with would necessarily be a comfortable one. Not that there's anything we as a nation could do about that because even if we accept humankind's effect on its climate our tiny nation's contribution is largely insignificant compared with the contribution of the big global polluters.
The world has been subject to major climate changes in recent history and some of the effects of those changes are known. This world faces many challenges in the decades ahead, the exact outcome of almost-inevitable changes being uncertain.
I suspect the generation who follow us will face climate-related problems far greater than anything the past few have done. This generation is very fortunate in very many ways I think.

That is so like me, I do really need to take more positives from the changing of the seasons cause darkness really does make me miserable but the colours are lovely, I'd say spring is my favourite of all, new life ! And my birthday and you have all summer to look forward to. As for our weather here, I think it's just gonna get to a stage where its the same all year round, I remember my mother telling me how when she was young the seasons were really the proper seasons, like if it snowed it REALLY snowed!! It gets on my boobicles that every time it 'snows' here, the whole country seems to delve into absolute meltdown from four inches of snow.
Get a grip !

Hi Mac, it certainly is worrying for all the people who are experiencing the monsoon's and storm's and they seem to hit with such force too causing death and devastation. My thoughts and prayers are with them. How lovely to spend that amount of time away with your wife, do you have friend's there too?

Re: Autumn?
Hi earth angel oh yes spring is a lovely season, seeing all the flowers come back to life and the animals that return from hibernation too. I know some folk go to the extreme don't they when it snows, the same as Christmas lol they shop like it is the end of the world, the shops are only shut for one day .
I find the use of essential oils helpful if you are feeling low and lethargic from the dark morning and nights, You can pop them in a diffuser or make bath products with them and it is suprising just how uplifting they make you feel, so if you feel low use any citris essential oils or bubble baths and shower gels. Just note though to dilute well and do a patch test on yourself if you have sensitive skin

Our only friends there are Canucks and Americans who have become our friends. Most are winter visitors like ourselves, a few are RVers as we were for a number of years.Golden Angel wrote:Hi Mac, it certainly is worrying for all the people who are experiencing the monsoon's and storm's and they seem to hit with such force too causing death and devastation. Thankfully only one friend lives in Florida which looks likely to be hit by Hurricane Irma at the beginning of next week. That monster hurricane is already battering the Caribbean and another is set to follow a few days later.
Our UK weather is frequently cool, grey, cloudy wet and windy but thankfully we don't get many extremes and they're small beer compared with those experienced by many others.

Hi Mac that is lovely that you do have some friends in Arizona and nice for you both to meet up with them
I do hope you friend in Florida will be safe along with everyone else. I agree we are lucky here in the UK to not experience the devastation the weather is impacting on other's around the world.
