I thought the 5 of Cups was supposed to mean grief, loss, sadness etc. Why is the meaning so different in this deck?

    Hello Gardenia,

Most of the old tarot where created by men, and they had a fear of some kind of women. The cups is a feminine world that is regaining new significations as the women liberate themselves in these times.

My simple opinion why the signification is different here.

That's an interesting idea. Doesn't the 3 of Cups show happiness though? With 3 women dancing around I would have thought that was showing being liberated and happy. Why would they have the 5 of Cups with the same type of message. Surely grief, loss and sadness is a valid emotion felt by both men and women.

My card that I study for the week: The ten of cups

From Thoth Tarot, we can see that the equilibrium is not yet perfect, as some cups are titled:
    Card of the Day Screenshot.27-200x300

The ten of cups is also Sandalphon in the Tree of Life. Here is a more modern and feminine representation of that Archangel, by Aigle de Crystal:
    Card of the Day F3cbTWN

As one can see the energy is very different in those two representation.

Wildwood Tarot is an entirely different system to the more common Rider Waite Smith.
It has its own system and a lot if cards have different meanings in The Wildwood than the equivalent card in RWS based decks.
It has absolutely nothing to do with Cups being a feminine energy suit and misogyny in deck creators, considering that the Swords suit is seen as masculine energy and has the most negative cards in the entire deck.

Wow, thanks for that. Your reply makes so much more sense.

Today the Ten of Cups jumped out at me: link

Now this is the second time that this has happened and I'm curious about other's too. Often when I pick up the cards I will see the card on the bottom of the deck. It got me wondering if there was any meaning to this. Fast forward a little bit and two cards have stood out, namely the two of cups and today the ten of cups. Both cards have been on the bottom of the deck and then I've shuffled and cut the deck an then they have been the card at the top of the deck ~ I'm not going to dwell to much on it but there both nice cards and I wanted to share.
