I hear a lot about 'Door Keepers' isn't this simply a spirit guide?

Guides come in different roles depending on what one is looking for in life. You wouldn't want a guide that knows about construction if you were going to be a healer in life.
Gate keepers are those that keep out the boogie men. I would assume on some level that all spirit guides would also work as a Gate keeper. Yet, there is a specific role that is carried out be specific spirits.

    Hi innerlight
Now that's where it can get confusing, surely that is part and parcel of any spirit guide's role, why would you need a special one for that, and yet boogiemen or dark spirits can still occasionally get through even then.

This is a concept that I , myself, am not to sure on. As why are their Gate Keepers is boogie men still get in? Are they not doing their job, or not strong enough? There are a few trains of thought on such a question. One would be that you on some level decided that you wanted this spirit to get in and harass you so you can learn and grow from it. IMO, your not gonna learn much from this type of spirit attack unless you were aware of it before hand, and knew how to protect yourself. A person that is harassed by an evil spirit, or any spirit, without any knowledge of such a thing will not really grow from it, and eventually may lose their sanity.
It could also be possible that gate keepers only keep things out when they are called upon?? Not sure about such a notion either. You would probably have to ask Lightseeker, or Lynn who have more knowledge of such things.

A doorkeeper - can also be referred to as spirit guardian or gatekeeper - is someone who stays with us from the moment of our birth and when we pass into the spirit world. A doorkeeper watches over us during our lives and will try to warn us of any impending danger. However, they cannot interfere with the decisions we make, even when they are aware we will be hurt. We have to learn from our mistakes otherwise we won't progress spiritually.

Some people say ourselves and our doorkeeper are actually the same person. I think this is quite plausible. Perhaps our intuition comes from our own doorkeeper, after all we certainly wouldn't allow anyone to cause us undue pain and unnecessary suffering. Therefore, if we our own doorkeeper, surely it's logical to assume that we have to be personally responsible for whatever happens to us, or even how we interact with others. Unfortunately not every
person is aware of their doorkeeper or can hear their guidance, this doesn't mean they are abandoned or any less spiritual than those who can.

A spiritual guide is someone who is concerned with our spiritual unfoldment and mediumship only. They come to work with us when we decide to develop mediumship. The function of a spirit guide is to assist us with whatever aspect of mediumship we choose to focus on.
At times, we will have helpers working alongside a medium and guide, they are similar to what we term apprentices in our physical world.

Helpers can often include family members and friends as they are still interested in our lives and want to support us in the best way that they can. Each mediumistic aspect requires different types of energies therefore, the guide and group of helpers will change to reflect this.

There are mischievous spirits as well as those who have little awareness and understanding of spiritual matters. Some will endeavour to try to influence the inexperienced and gullible into believing they are communicating with all manner of famous people, including highly religious people. Some may have a desire to cause harm. This is why it is so important for us to test the spirits whenever we want to communicate with those in the spirit world to ensure they are there for the best of our intentions. In other words, we must be in charge of our mediumship and use our common sense at all times. We are the ones in charge of our mediumship as well as our personal lives. Should things go wrong in any area we shouldn't blame spirit, not when it's our responsibility.
