I know a few people who do this it's quite creepy sometimes, I don't know why this happens and why it doesn't makes their eyes sore because they don't seem to blink either, mind you they're never wide open...thankfully.

Re: Sleeping with eyes open
I don't know why either Violet, but I have seen sleepers with their eyes a little open...like just a slit. maybe it is something to do with the muscles relaxing in sleep.

Re: Sleeping with eyes open
My husband used to sleep like that.
Especially when he dozed off sitting in the armchair in the afternoon.
I took it many a time he was dozing until I switched the television off then a voice used to say 'I'm watching that!'.

Re: Sleeping with eyes open
I do it all the time Violet, Ive been told you can only see the white part of my eyes every time I fall asleep. When I close my eyes they seem to automatically go up into my head. My eyes will eventually close but also will reopen.
My daughter and I sleep with our eyes wide open from time to time. As for me I have every sleep dis function known to man, some people call it a disorder but it doesn't feel like that to me. I am a sleep talker, walker, singer, laugher, screamer, runner, jumper, kicker, on top of sleeping with my eyes open, I've never injured myself or anyone else. Make it very hard to find a good bed partner . I don't feel I need treatment, Its quite amusing to hear others tell me what I have done while sleeping. I have no recall of anything unless I wake myself up in the middle. Just yesterday morning around 5 AM I woke myself up laughing so hard at a dream I was having. I recall the dream vividly and was still laughing long after I woke up. it was so......funny to me and I'm still laughing about it!
