Understanding Messages from Spirit
Spirit speaks to us all during the day and all during the night. But the communication is symbolic in nature and not readily understood by many people today. This was not always so, and ancient culture and civilizations taught their communities how to understand this forgotten language of the Universe called symbolism.
Most people accept that we dream in symbols but rarely do they understand that these same principles apply to their waking reality. Understanding dream interpretation is often a great way to begin understanding messages from spirit but many people assume that symbolic language will be challenging to understand. In fact everyone switches from literal to symbolic thinking all day and the trick is to start paying attention to this common everyday event.
For example, if someone tells you they are feeling blue, you do not literally think their skin has turned blue. You translate this symbolic language to mean they are feeling sad or down. Similarly someone may say “I feel stabbed in the back” and you would not have him or her turn around to see if there was literally a knife sticking out. You would translate this to mean they have felt betrayed. Can you begin to see how you are already switching from literal to symbolic language everyday?
We actually think with symbols, images and pictures, not words.
Understanding the meaning of symbols is easier than you think because we are inundated with marketing and this is a symbolic language. Imagine the image of a little pink bunny hitting a drum and what product do you think of? If you thought of batteries, then you have understood symbolism and are well on your way to understanding messages from spirit.
Perhaps you have asked for a sign from Your God at some point in your life. Then you received the sign but couldn’t interpret it? This is common and you can readily begin to understand these spiritual communiqués by paying attention to what gets your attention. If a bird smashes into your car window, this may get your attention and you can bet there is a deeper meaning and message from spirit behind it.
In the moment that this happens you are to ponder what birds represent to you? What do birds do? They fly of course and this often means freedom to many people. So birds may represent freedom to you. Now the trick of understanding this message is to relate the word freedom (or your sense of freedom) to something going on in your current life experiences.
In the moment that bird hits the windshield, you are to ask yourself, “Am I lacking freedom in some situation, relationship or endeavour? Am I craving freedom or feeling hemmed in at this time?” This symbol was sent to you from spirit and was meant to catch your attention in the moment. It was meant to have you Know Yourself better by understanding your feelings about freedom. In this way your guides and the Creators are speaking with you all the time.
Spirit whispers their messages through any means possible, including animals, plants, rocks or any of the elements. You may hear “your answers” through another person’s words, through a song, in a book or on TV. Anything that gets your attention can be considered a message. Many people wait for something major to catch their attention, like a heart attack or a car accident. Then they will pay attention and perhaps change their diet or driving habits.
The Universe speaks to you through these attention getting ways but you can begin to pay attention for the smaller whispers and not let it build up to the point that your guides intervene with a major attention getting event that rocks your world. Seldom will an angel appear to your physical eyes and hand you a road map. It just does not work this way. But Spirit can play with the energies that comprise the world you live in and they do it all the time.
They can have you look in the right direction at the right time so that you see the North Star to guide you out of the forest. They can have a dear cross your path or a butterfly land on your shoulder. All these are messages are from the Creators and if you would but learn to stop in that moment and relate that event to something going on in your own life you would flow through life with great ease because you would realize the benevolent Universe is with you every step of the way.
If that butterfly lands on your shoulder – ask yourself what do butterflies represent. Perhaps you know that they go through many stages of change (from caterpillar to butterfly) and could therefore represent the changes you are going through at this time in your life. If that dear does cross your path, realize dears are about gentleness and could be a message from Spirit suggesting you require more gentleness with self at that particular time in your life.
If you are driving home and get a speeding ticket, this too is a message from Spirit. It literally means you were driving to fast but it symbolically means you are going to quickly in regards to something else in your life. It is up to you to figure out what this speediness is about and begin to understand that the Creators are giving you a warning to slow down.
If you fall and hurt your ankle this too is symbolic and has deeper meaning. Ankles are about support and you could ask yourself if you have been supporting yourself well lately, or have you been lacking support in some other way. Again it is up to you to get to know yourself to see how these messages are suppose to be understood in your waking reality.
All body illness’s, dis-ease’s and injuries have deeper symbolic meaning. All events in your life, all relationships, your work, your home, absolutely everything is a reflection of your inner world and your Creator will attempt to communicate to you through these varied avenues. In fact Spirit will use an infinite number of ways to catch your attention. The more creative you are about receiving messages, the more you will begin to notice them. So if a number repetitively catches your eye, this is a message. If the letters on a license plate make you think of a word, this is symbolic and has a message from Spirit.
If you are pondering a question in your mind while standing in a bank line-up and overhear a conversation between strangers – your answer may come through their words. If a budding flower makes you weep, this too is a message.
Messages often come through your emotions, your thoughts and the sensations in your physical body. So if you get a shiver down your spine, the hairs standing up on your arms or a clench in your gut, these too are messages. Remember to realize that it is a message about that moment in time. So if you get a shiver, ask yourself “what was I just thinking about?” Connect that thought with the shiver and understand that it is meant to be a warning. Pay attention to your senses – your instincts are never wrong – it is your trusting of them and validation of them that is usually askew.
Now begin to pay attention to what catches your attention. Ask yourself what the meaning of that event denotes to your personally (or use a dream dictionary as training wheels to get you started). Then connect the meaning to something going on inside your inner world, in a relationship or any situation occurring in your life. You will soon realize that Spirit is speaking to you all through the day and all through the night.'
