Personifications of Death

We have all heard "death" referred to as a living being so to speak. In the Bible in Revelations 6:8 death is called a man "Behold a pale horse and the mans name that sat upon him was death"....In the US the Grim Reaper use to carry the stark image of death. In Mexico it is Santa Muerta who is viewed as a female image. Putting a face on something that we do not understand is quite common throughout human history. In Greek death is referred to as Charon or the ferryman of Hades who carries the newly dead across the river Styx . Charon is often seen in the art of ancient Greece. So what are some of your favorite death images and what is the history behind them?

At the moment I can't think of any more than the images you hive given.....but I'm interested in what others come through with....

Maybe. He is a personified sentient death image. Much like Charon the Ferryman a personification of a sentient death entity. The Reeper has held this sentient death entity title since the 15th Century. Depicted as a skeleton figure wearing a dark black cloak with a hood and carrying scythe..
