Are you familiar with the comet that is approaching the planet and its arrival is due  Novemeber 28th 2013? Approaching at a speed of 2 million miles per day...and 50,000 km's/hour

The buzz is growing....its path is concerning to some...and many other interesting bits...like this

    That sounds scary too,Mr.Whitmore.....

Though comets have been pretty frequent over the years.

I just hope I am not around when a big one actually hits the earth....

I noticed that light the first time.    You know it reminded me of?    A submarine in the air.....instead of the sea.

    latest Comet Ison image

    Comet C/2012 S1 ISON Hg52801287

I’m starting to get the chills about Comet ISON. I can’t help it. With practically every telescope turned the comet’s way fewer than three short weeks before perihelion, every week brings new images and developments. The latest pictures show a brand new tail feature emerging from the comet’s bulbous coma. For months, amateur and professional astronomers alike have watched ISON’s slowly growing dust tail that now stretches nearly half a degree or a full moon’s diameter. In the past two days, photos taken by amateur astronomers reveal what appears to be a nascent.

well its headed for the sun...and hopefully it will survive because if it does it will light the night sky up more than any comet has in human history.

but it seems doomed to me

no danger to us at all spiritvoice

Apparently the brightness will be far and above anything a human has ever seen in regards to comets.....if it survives..... and i imagine the sun will be burping after this dose of "Life"

the sun is the god...and the comets are the sacrifice....

A comet can best be described as a dirty snowball. Many have a rocky core, but are just a mixture of ice and debris on the outside. The newest theories state that it was comets that brought most of the liquid water to earth.

    dang cat

In answer to your question, Joanie.....

...and the heat from it?     Will there be excessive heat?

The only heat that would come from it would be if it were to enter our atmosphere.  As it began to encounter the thicker air it would begin to heat as it melted.....then the solid core (if it has one) would begin to glow red hot.

BUT.....this comet is not expected to get anywhere close to the earth. There is mixed speculation whether it will just disintegrate as it gets closer to the sun or if it will survive and continue it's journey back out to the Oort cloud beyond Pluto.

Actually, those 'disasters' have been happening for BILLIONS of years. The only difference now is that the human population has grown to such an extent that any happening out of the ordinary has a large impact on our lives.

About a week before ISON there will be a second comet called 'old faithful'. It has a very short orbital period...about 3.3 years.
