Nightmares are the problems of the mind, hidden fears, worries about the day behind. Problems which have been upsetting us over a period of time.
Unfortunately they come out as a different story altogether so we need to sort our problems out.
Some kinds of dreams show the home in them. Each room in the home can mean a different aspect of a dream.
...and so and on.

You are so..... right nightmare, although nightmares are just as important as the happy dreams who in the heck wants to share or even repeat a nightmare. Most of the time we are happy to wake up from them. I totally agree with you here sometimes we do......need the devil scared out of us!!!
All dreams are significant, nothing not even the smallest thing should be discarded. I believe all dreams are to keep us in alignment, for our highest and most beneficial outcome in life.
Most people don't realize the power of dreams they are as real as we are. Moreover they can be controlled just as we control our awaken state of being.
My most popular nightmare of all times is vampires.. I've never been bitten but I'm always running from them. They come when I need to re-evaluate the people I associate with.
Love to all....

An excellent explanation,CW.....Do you believe that dreams come from the unconscious or conscious mind?

Dreams are a trilogy, of our consciousness, subconsciousness and spiritual state of being.

I have fairly frequent nightmares compared to other adults

Violet sometimes what we think is a nightmare isn't one at all. What is your most frequent nightmare?
When we become aware that we are sleeping while we are dreaming, we not only have the power to change our dream but our reality as well.
Sounds unbelievable doesn't it?

I think sometimes nightmares can be due to a physical component.
I very rarely have nightmares and, the times when I do, it is usually
because my body is out of sorts (either through a sudden illness or
something I'd eaten that disagreed with me). Guess there may be
something in the expression that cheese can give you nightmares!?

My mother used to say that...
Very rarely I eat cheese now....
But I do think dreams can be prophetic. I once dreamed that a plane was going to crash. I was even given the number of the house which was incorrect but the name of the street was.
Though it turned out to be a block of flats in the USA. As far as I know there haven't been any bombings there or any planes crashing.

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
Oh of course some nightmares can be prophetic! I am guessing these
are the rare exception though and that they can easily be distinguished
from an outright nightmare (which would have random gross images and
make less sense, i.e. be more far fetched or just reflect an obscure/hazy
fear).

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
The only one that wasn't,was a dream about Greece,. Seeing a suitcase sitting in the main entrance of the airport. Old dirty suitcase with Greece written on the side of it.
Took it to be some type of accident, switched the news on and there was warnings about passengers travelling to Greece after the event.....that the danger was not over yet from a previous earthquake,I think it was.
Supposed it could be called a 'warning'.

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
As I have said before, to me there is no such thing as nightmares.
In one dream I stabbed a man with a pip into the side of the neck where the main artery is, the blood come up through the pip into my mouth.
I woke up spitting to get the blood and the taste out of my mouth. A nightmare? No
It was an important message to me.
In most cases they are very important messages to us.

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
Something I realised a long time ago...but find some nightmares and even pleasant dreams are hard to work out what the meanings are.
Having had two dreams of an unpleasant nature,I wondered last night if I would dream again.
Nearly afraid to fall asleep...but no dreams at all, thank God.

Hi CW I often have nightmares of losing someone I care about, or losing my cats, I can usually control dreams quite well and occasionally I can change a nightmare or wake myself up as in most dreams I know i'm dreaming, it's just those odd ones which I can't change and which feel more real than life itself and I wake up in terror and it takes me all day to 'shake it off'

I often wonder why a nightmare stays with us in memory than a pleasant dream does. Why the reaction from a terrible dream affects us more than a loving dream.....

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
Hi Joanie, the human mind seems to dwell on the bad stuff doesn't it, perhaps because of the pain it causes.

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
There are many motivators in life "Pain" is the most popular. Pain is also a universal language, everything understand pain.
Without pain there would be no need for healing and there will be no healing where there is blame and suffering.
Pain is something that we can not avoid, but suffering is optional.
The very thing that awakens our fears will often be the motivating factor to increase our awesomeness!
Love to all....

'Suffering is optional'.
So right,CW. Something I never thought of before.....
Unless it is physical suffering....to do with the body.
Mental suffering....worrying about something that is not really necessary is our mind creating problems....

The body can hurt, but as CW said, suffering is optional.

You talking about physical hurt,Detlef?
How can we stop physical hurt? When the body is injured?
Can we really turn that physical hurt off?

When your mind is ill your body can create issues and physical pain that stem from that.SpiritVoices wrote:'Suffering is optional'.

What we are trying to say is, hurt does not have to be suffering, unless you make it so.SpiritVoices wrote:Detlef wrote: Unless it is physical suffering....to do with the body.

I played tennis last night and my hip is hurting me this morning. Am I suffering? No, it is just hurting.
If I would run around, and winch and whine about my hip, then I am most likely suffering.

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
The word 'suffering' here is being used in two different contexts.
It is a common word which can used for all complaints.
'Suffering' from physical and mental ailments.
Per example....'I am suffering from the heat of the sun'...physical.
'I am suffering from depression'...mental.
A word that is greatly overworked....

Joan isn't that the way things are in real life too. I know people who only remember the bad and forget the good. If we were honest with ourselves and looked back on our lives the things the hurt us the most are what we remember. Maybe that is because those things have taught us a lesson and that is why it stays in our minds!
You are a lot happier going through life if you can forget the bad but again that's another lesson!

Re: Crazy crazy dreams can be nightmares
That is so true. Looking at dreams I have dreamed,I do see a pattern in them sometimes. I am the sort of person who doesn't mind their own company. Always been a bit of a loner.
But in my dreams,I am always surrounded by company.
...and I don't mind! Why is that?
